Punjab Red Crescent Society organized a one-day blood camp for thalassemia patients at Government Shalimar College for Boys, Baghbanpura, Lahore on 26th January 2023 as a result of which 31 blood bags were collected.
The main objective of the blood camp was to collect blood donations for thalassemia patients who come for free blood transfusion at JTK Thalassemia Center of Red Crescent Punjab.
The management, teachers, and students of the college participated in donating blood for Thalassemia and fulfilling this noble cause.
The blood team of Red Crescent Punjab conducted a motivational session regarding blood donation and made students of different classes in the college aware of thalassemia.
Assistant Director and Psychiatrist, Red Crescent Punjab, Dr. Fauzia Saeed said that thalassemia is a hereditary disease that is passed from parents to children through genes and the blood disorder occurs when the body does not have enough of a protein called hemoglobin. She further said that thalassemia patients need blood transfusions to carry out their daily routine and Red Crescent Punjab is running its thalassemia center which provides free blood to needy and poor people.
She appreciated the management and teachers for the commitment of the students and their cooperation in organizing the blood camp.
Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Naeem Javed, Principal, Government Shalimar College for Boys, visited the blood camp and appreciated the countless efforts of Red Crescent Punjab in organizing Thalassemia blood camps and working for humanity. . He also assured to organize more blood camps in the future with Red Crescent Punjab.
Finally, Red Crescent Punjab distributed certificates to the blood donors.
