Session on Disaster Preparedness & Disaster Response– PRCS Youth Development Boot Camp 2025

Continuing its mission to build a resilient and well-informed youth force, the Youth & Volunteer Department of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Punjab Branch held a dynamic session on Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Response as part of the ongoing Youth Development Boot Camp 2025.

The session took place at Lady Emerson Hall, PHQ Punjab, and engaged 37 volunteers — 10 males and 27 females — in a comprehensive discussion on critical aspects of disaster management.

Led by Mudassar Habib Jami, Youth & Volunteer Officer (Punjab), the session introduced participants to fundamental concepts including the definition of a disaster, the disaster management cycle, and the principles of preparedness and response. Volunteers were also briefed on PRCS’s structured response system, encompassing Community Disaster Response Teams (CDRT), District Disaster Response Teams (DDRT), Branch Disaster Response Teams (BDRT), and the National Disaster Response Team (NDRT).

A key focus was placed on the role of preparedness within the disaster management cycle and the vital contributions of volunteers before, during, and after emergencies. Real-world case studies of PRCS’s past interventions helped participants visualize the tangible impact of effective disaster response and community engagement.

To reinforce theoretical learning with practical experience, volunteers were divided into four groups and tasked with exercises and poster-making activities to demonstrate their grasp of the session’s key topics.

The session not only enhanced the participants’ understanding of disaster preparedness but also inspired them to take an active role in supporting communities during crises, further strengthening PRCS’s commitment to youth-led humanitarian action.
