Pakistan Red Crescent Society is a member of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) which is the world’s largest humanitarian organization.It carries out a wide range of humanitarian and voluntary relief activities including Disaster Management and Healthcare during peace as well as war around the globe. The Pakistan Red Cross Society was founded in Pakistan on December 20, 1947 by an Order called “The Pakistan Red Cross Order” issued by Quaid-E-Azam, as Governor General of Pakistan, who was the founding President of the Society.
Subsequently, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society was constituted through Act No. XIV 1974 of the Parliament. With its National Headquarters in the Federal Capital/Islamabad, the Society has its Branches in all four Provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan, one regional branch at Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) recently merged in the Province of KPK, Federal Capital Territory of Islamabad Branch and the AJK Branch.Through these Branches and district level branches the Pakistan Red Crescent Society coordinates its field operations. This vast network is managed through a dedicated team of staff and volunteers drawn from a wide cross-section of the society.
It is pertinent to submit that the Punjab Red Crescent Society has established a Medical College (Pak Red Crescent Medical College) at Dina Nath along with a Teaching Hospital in the year 2012 which is affiliated with the University of Health Sciences, Lahore.
