Muzaffargarh / Dera Ghazi Khan – The Pakistan Red Crescent Punjab Branch, in collaboration with the German Red Cross, has undertaken a significant initiative to enhance disaster preparedness in the flood-prone districts of Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan. The efforts are part of the ongoing Anticipation and Humanitarian Disaster Risk Reduction Project, aimed at building community resilience against natural disasters.
As part of this initiative, Community Disaster Response Teams (CDRTs) were established along the Indus River—regions that are frequently impacted by seasonal flooding. A total of seven CDRTs were formed, each comprising 30 trained community members, including both men and women, bringing the total number of trained individuals to approximately 210.
These community members received training in disaster preparedness and basic first aid, empowering them to respond effectively during emergencies. Additionally, first aid kits were distributed to further equip these teams with essential tools to manage emergency situations at the local level.
This proactive approach underscores a commitment to local capacity building and community-led disaster risk reduction, ensuring that vulnerable populations are better protected and prepared in the face of future disasters.
