PRCS Trains 25 Prison Staff in First Aid and Family Link Services at District Jail Sargodha

Sargodha, Punjab — The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Punjab Branch conducted a two-day training session for prison staff at District Jail Sargodha, where 25 employees successfully completed training focused on emergency medical response and humanitarian services.

The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of prison staff in handling common medical emergencies inside detention facilities, improving response time before professional medical assistance becomes available.

Focus on Emergency Response and Humanitarian Support

On the second day of the training, participants were guided through key objectives including managing common medical emergencies in prisons, proper use and maintenance of first aid kits, and accurate documentation and record-keeping procedures.

Staff were trained to recognize and respond to critical conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, burns, angina, and heat stroke. Practical simulation drills were also conducted to ensure hands-on learning and preparedness.

Strengthening Restoring Family Links (RFL) Services

A dedicated session was held on the PRCS Restoring Family Links (RFL) program, highlighting its role as a humanitarian auxiliary to authorities in maintaining communication between prisoners and their families.

Participants were briefed on services such as Red Cross Messages and tracing support, enabling them to guide families in accessing essential communication channels.

Key Outcomes

  • 25 Certified First Aiders: Prison Department staff at District Jail Sargodha and allied facilities were certified as first responders by PRCS Punjab.
  • Improved Emergency Capacity: Participants gained practical skills to respond to life-threatening conditions before doctors arrive.
  • Enhanced RFL Awareness: Staff are now equipped to guide prisoners’ families regarding PRCS humanitarian communication services.
