LAHORE, September 1, 2026: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Punjab formally launched its landmark “Youth for Humanity” Initiative at a ceremony held at Darbar Hall, Governor House, Lahore, with a focus on empowering university students to play a meaningful role in humanitarian action and community resilience.
The ceremony was attended by Governor Punjab and President PRCS Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, Chairman PRCS Punjab Mian Muhammad Hanif, PRCS leadership, IFRC Head of Delegation Mr. Andreas von Weissenberg, Secretary General PRCS NHQ Mr. Abaid Ullah, members of the PRCS Punjab Managing Committee, Vice Chancellors and senior representatives of 12 leading universities across Punjab, and other distinguished guests.
The initiative seeks to engage and empower young people by providing them with essential skills, training and opportunities to contribute effectively to humanitarian activities and strengthen resilience within their communities.
The “Youth for Humanity” programme is structured around three key pillars. The first focuses on First Aid and Emergency Response, aimed at developing lifesaving skills, emergency preparedness and response capacity among university youth.
The second pillar, Volunteerism and Humanitarian Service, seeks to promote a culture of volunteerism, compassion and service to humanity by encouraging young people to participate actively in humanitarian initiatives.
The third pillar, Community Service and Climate Action, encourages youth to contribute to resilient, sustainable and environmentally responsible communities through community-based initiatives and climate-related action.
The launch marks a significant step by PRCS Punjab towards strengthening meaningful youth participation in humanitarian work and creating opportunities for young people to develop practical skills while serving their communities.
Through the initiative, PRCS Punjab aims to nurture a new generation of skilled, responsible and compassionate volunteers capable of responding to emergencies, supporting vulnerable communities and contributing to a more resilient and sustainable society.
