PRCS Punjab Conducts Two-Day Basic First Aid Training for Punjab Prisons Staff

Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Punjab Provincial Branch, in collaboration with the Inspectorate General Prisons Punjab, successfully conducted a two-day Basic First Aid Training for prison staff on 8–9 June 2026 at the Inspectorate General Prisons Punjab Office, Lahore.

The training aimed to strengthen emergency response capacity within correctional facilities by equipping prison staff with essential life-saving skills in accordance with IFRC and ICRC First Aid guidelines. A total of 26 participants, including prison wardens, medical personnel, and administrative officers from Central Jail Lahore and nearby correctional facilities, attended the training.

During the first day, participants received both theoretical and practical training on the fundamentals of first aid, patient assessment, management of unconscious casualties, bleeding control, wound care, bandaging techniques, fractures, sprains, immobilization, choking management, and CPR awareness. Interactive role-plays and hands-on exercises enabled participants to practice emergency response techniques in realistic scenarios.

The training focused on enhancing participants’ confidence and ability to respond effectively before professional medical assistance becomes available. By the end of Day One, participants successfully demonstrated key skills, including the recovery position, bandaging techniques, and basic emergency response procedures.

The second day covered critical topics such as burns, heat stroke, poisoning management, medical emergencies including heart attacks, strokes, angina, and dog bites, as well as first aid kit management and record-keeping procedures. Practical drills and scenario-based exercises further reinforced participants’ learning and preparedness.

Speaking on the occasion, PRCS Punjab reaffirmed its commitment to building safer and more resilient communities through first aid education and capacity-building initiatives. The training is expected to enhance emergency preparedness within Punjab’s prison system and improve the immediate response to medical emergencies.

Upon successful completion of the training, 26 prison staff members were equipped with essential first aid knowledge and skills, enabling them to provide timely assistance and potentially save lives within correctional facilities.
